Not a morning person? Join the club. I love staying up late even if I have an early wake up call. Here are several tips and tricks that get me, a night owl, started every morning
1. DON'T HIT SNOOZE
I always set an emergency alarm on my phone just in case the power goes out or any other life glitch happens. My phone used to be my only alarm and when I use it, I’m the WORST about hitting the snooze on the alarm. When you hit snooze you are signaling a false alarm to your body allowing yourself to fall back asleep. The more you snooze, the more confused your body and brain get, so you’ll probably feel more out of it even though you actually spent extra time in bed.
2. TURN ON THE LIGHT
It doesn’t matter if you’re an early riser or a night owl. The human body is conditioned to wake up when the sun is providing light. By simulating a sunset and then simulating a sunrise in a darkened room, you can “trick” your body into a balanced sleeping rhythm. Keep a lamp right next to your bed and as soon as your alarm goes off, turn that light on and start your day!
3. DRINK WATER
Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning wakes up your digestive system and helps get that metabolism started. Not only does it re-hydrate you after 6-8 hours of sleep, but it provides a serious wake up call.
4. HAVE SOMETHING EXCITING TO DO
Remember Christmas mornings when you were a kid? The feeling of starting a new job? Going on a big trip? We’ve all had some mornings in our lives where we were triggered to get out of bed. We were excited for the day ahead. Whether its a workout class or a brunch date with girlfriends, find a way to make every day a little exciting!
5. AWAKE MIST
Our Awake Mist is made using lemon + basil essential oils. Mist Awake on your face to help revive and awaken your senses! AWAKE MIST, $15.
6. GET QUALITY SLEEP
You spend one-third of your life sleeping. It is an important component of life so its important that you not only get quantity but also quality of sleep. Getting a good nights rest will also make it easier to rise in the morning. My biggest hack for better rest is a sleep mask. They block out light, making sure you get the best night of sleep possible!
